Hipster: The Dead End of Western Civilization
“We are a lost generation, desperately clinging to anything that feels real, but too afraid to become it ourselves. We are a defeated generation, resigned to the hypocrisy of those before us, who once sang songs of rebellion and now sell them back to us. We are the last generation, a culmination of all previous things, destroyed by the vapidity that surrounds us. The hipster represents the end of Western civilization – a culture so detached and disconnected that it has stopped giving birth to anything new. ”

tonight my fifteen year old brother asked me, “kristin, what are you?” and i said, “i am not anything-” and he said, “then you’re kristin? kristin style?” and i nodded, “yep, a little bit of a lot rolled into one.”
recently i found out my generation is labeled as “Y”- what does that really mean?

It comes from our generation who someone one day labeled “Generation X”, because I guess we were kind of the aftermath of the babyboomers and considered a “lost” generation, growing up on fast-food, watching TV, playing video games, i.e. becoming not very social, kinda losers & outsiders [that is a very general assumption, but it does ring true with many people I know & even me for a while]. then it was logical to follow X with Y… [there was no Generation W, V or U, etc before us…. I wonder what they’ll do when they get to Z…… will they start over at A like for Hurricane names???]
